    The proper recitation of the Qur'an is a prerequisite for leading the community in prayer.

    Course Overview

    This course is dedicated to the art and science of reciting the Qur'an with proper pronunciation and intonation, as it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Students will learn the rules of Tajwid, including the correct articulation points of the letters (makharij al-huruf), the characteristics of the letters (sifat al-huruf), and the rules of stopping and starting (waqf wa ibtida). The course is designed to help students beautify their recitation of the Qur'an and to fulfill the command to recite it with "Tarteel" (slow, measured rhythmic tones).
