    Course Overview

    This course delves into the legal theory and principles that underpin Islamic jurisprudence. Students will learn about the sources of Islamic law (the Qur'an, Sunnah, Ijma', and Qiyas), the methods of legal reasoning and deduction (ijtihad), and the principles for resolving apparent conflicts between legal texts. A strong grasp of Usul al-Fiqh is essential for anyone who wishes to understand the reasoning of the great jurists and to appreciate the richness and sophistication of the Islamic legal tradition.
