Why Does God use the Word “We” in the Qur’an?

  • It is certainly We Who have revealed the Reminder, and it is certainly We Who will preserve it. [Surah Al-Hijr 15:9]
  • And We created you in pairs (Surah An-Naba 78:8).
  • The Term Nahnu (We) and Khalaqna (We created you) is the Royal “We” which is sometimes used by the Kings and Queens who when they make a judgement say “We have decreed” even if it is just a queen or king making the statement.
  • Plurals of respect are also used in English “How are you” instead of “how is you”.  Consider: This is a chair (singular) vs. these are chairs (plural).
