Who was Imam Abū Jaʿfar Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭaḥāwī?, أبو جعفر أحمد الطحاوي

  • Imam At-Tahawi was an a great imam, muhaddith (scholar of hadith) and faqeeh (scholar of fiqh) in his time. 

  • Born: 853 CE / 239 AH, Taha Al-Amidah, Abbasid Caliphate

  • Died: 933 CE / 321 AH, Cairo, Abbasid Caliphate

  • His full name is Abu Ja’far Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Salaamah al-Tahawi – who is named after a village in Upper Egypt. 

  • Imam At-Tahawi studied with many Shaykhs and learned from them and benefited from them, and he listed their number as three hundred Shaykhs. He is a Hanafi faqih (scholar of fiqh) in his madhhab.
